John Urban, President & General Manager

Urban brings to SMA more than 20 years experience in the Entertainment, Events and Venue Operations Industry. Prior to joining the Sports Museum of America, he served as the Senior Vice President & General Manager at Radio City Music Hall from 1999 to 2006.

While at Radio City, Mr. Urban helped return the Music Hall to operating mode following its historic $70 million restoration, and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the famed 6,000-seat venue with responsibility for such areas as production/stage management, box office, front-of-house operations and facility management. On its Great Stage the Music Hall plays host to more than 300 performances annually and more than 2 million guests for events ranging from popular concerts and touring family attractions to high-profile television specials, awards shows and the world-renowned Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

A longtime member of the Madison Square Garden family (to which Radio City was added in 1997), Mr. Urban began his career in the Garden Public Relations Department in 1983 and held a number of positions as the Garden's operations expanded, serving most recently as Vice President, Events & Attractions. In that role, he was responsible for booking, developing and promoting entertainment programming for presentation throughout the Garden complex (Arena, Theatre, Expo Center).

Mr. Urban holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism/Public Relations and a graduate degree in Sports Administration/Facility Management from Ohio University. A native of Basking Ridge, NJ, he now resides in downtown Manhattan.
